I talk a lot teaching German privately online and that means my lips can get dry. To solve this little problem I keep two things on my desk: a bottle of water and a tube of WELEDA Everon (R) lip balm. It contains rose and beeswax and it’s great to know that it’s made in Germany by a company which keeps its products free from chemicals–simply good ingredients from nature! It lasts quite some time, too. It sells for $6.99 and can be obtained from WELEDA or from stores like Smallflower.com (Merz Apothecary).

This lip balm makes your lips feel so soft and is based on natural ingredients like the Olive Leaf. For thousands of years, natural healers around the world have used the power of the olive tree to quickly and naturally treat a variety of skin conditions, including cold sores, fever blisters, rashes, infections, dry skin, wrinkles, blemishes and more. Now Craig and Cindy Makela, creators of the original Santa Barbara Olive Co., along with their son Chad, are running Oleavicin, harnessing this power to deliver fast lasting relief from cold sores, shingles, eczema and other bites and stings in a natural, over-the-counter solution.

Sweet almond oil is as unrefined as it gets – it retains all the goodness found in almonds without the need to use toxins or refining agents. Sweet almond oil is packed with vitamin E, magnesium, antioxidants, fatty acids and beyond. Some benefits of almond oil for lips include getting into the cracks in your lips to help hydrate and lock in moisture. The vitamin E content in sweet almond oil is also great for keeping the lips soft and supple. Sweet almond oil can act as a barrier from the elements that can contribute to cracked, sore lips and dark skin. As it is rich in antioxidants, it can protect the lips from UV damage that can contribute to dryness and brown edges.

It’s Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, Berry. The link is below. It’s called a lip mask, but comes in a tiny pot jar like many balms do, and I carry it everywhere. Also, the berry is key. I tried the green tea & it’s nowhere near as emolliating. Okay, so here’s why you have to buy it: I have a nephew who just started Accutane which is a fairly aggressive means of treating acne. The major side effect is chapped lips…but it’s incredibly severe chapped lips. Picture peeling, cracked & inconsolable lips. My heart goes out to him whenever I see him. He’s been on prescription lip balms & everything over the counter. Nothing kept them hydrated why the medicine was drying out his oil glands. I gave him my Laneige lip mask, and it totally works! It is literally the only thing that works for his cracked lips. Downside…comes in a pink pot.
