There are all kinds of great phones on the market today, but if you’re looking for something a little more stylish, you’ll want a designer telephone. Not only are these models functional objects in themselves, but they can also add a touch of style to any room.
But it’s not enough or a phone to just look great. Many so-called designer phones actually offer poor functionality and sub-standard sound quality- a case of style over substance. For that reason, our team of cordless phone experts put every model through its paces to find out how it really stacks up. What’s more, we also carry out extensive surveys of real customers throughout the year, to ensure that they perform well in practise, too.
An Introduction to Luxury Home Telephones
Luxury home phones can be confusing because of the vast array of models available on the market. Do you want a DECT phone of cordless phone or corded phone? Do you want a single handset phone or a handset for every room? Do you want uncluttered, minimalist, high-tech phones, or something with a bit more “character”? Do you want a caller display phone, so the caller can be seen without having to answer the phone?
All these choices can leave you bewildered!
Give yourself some simple guidelines. Consider how many phones you want, and where they will work best (e.g. one handset per bedroom, or a DECT phone with a base for the living room). Think about the number of extensions you want, the number of handsets you need, and whether you want some handsets to ring when others don’t. Then think about how many phones you want that feature a caller display.
For example, if you need a phone for your bedroom, then consider whether a handset phone will suffice or whether a cordless phone would be more appropriate.
More Reasons to Use Home Telephones
Often it’s not just the looks that count – functionality matters, too. Getting a model which is easy to use is important, and is something that we take into account when we review a model. Even the simplest looking phones can get quite complicated to figure out – some don’t come with easy to read wiring instructions, for example.
Other features that have become standard on more expensive models – such as caller display – are also important. While not all the phones listed here have these features, we recommend that you have a look at the detailed specification for every model, as you may find that these functions work differently on some of the models.
Designer Home Phones: How To Assess Their Quality
There are several things that we assess during our testing.
The first is the overall look of the phone and how it fits into the room. We’ve all experienced telephones that just look totally wrong when used in the wrong room.
Functionality is another important factor. Does the phone perform as it should? In terms of operation, what’s the quality of the speaker, the microphone and the call quality? Does the phone give or take calls properly?
A third important feature is caller display. Does the phone show the number, the name of the caller, the number that’s calling if you’ve blocked it, or neither? What’s the quality of the display? Can you read it easily?
A decent battery life is another factor that we look at. After all, if you’re going to have a mobile phone, you don’t want it to go flat half way through the day.
None of the phones was given a perfect score on all aspects, but we feel that none of them are poor. Each phone has its minor faults, but they are all good enough to be recommended.
Contrary to what you might expect from a review of designer phones, this is not a list of identical, identikit models. The models we’ve picked include the different categories, feature-lists and prices of luxury phones. We’ve deliberately avoided listing the most high-tech models for the sake of variety – though phones which do feature cutting-edge technology are obviously eligible for inclusion.
You might be surprised to see that there are no phones from the biggest brands here, for instance. But we think that you’ll appreciate our choices – and they all have a place on the market.
We hope that you’ll enjoy our review and that you’ll learn something useful about any of the luxury home phones that we’ve picked. And if you don’t, you can always send us your review of a particular dining room furniture store near you!
A Luxury Home Phone review approach
What Makes the Top-Rated Phones?
Functionality
We think that the functionality of a phone is important because it will let you use the phone while you are staying in different rooms in your house. If the sound quality of the phone is bad, then it will be hard to be able to use the phone comfortably.
Comfort
Every phone that we listed in our review has a nice form factor. The phones are very comfortable to use because of their stylish design and friendly layout. This is what makes the phone stand out from the crowd,
Battery life
If you have the luxury home phone that has a battery life of less than 4 hours, then you’ll be spending the most of your evening around the phone charger. We think that such a phone is not worth buying at all.
Long Warranty
The phones that we listed in the review come with a long warranty period of up to 5 years. This is an advantage as in case of any problem with the functionality of the phone, you’ll have 30 days to contact the manufacture and get it replaced.
Long Distance Calling
If you have a luxury home phone, you’ll be able to use the latest call features like call forwarding, call waiting, call hold, voice mail and many more. In order to be able to enjoy all these features completely, you’ll need a phone with long distance calling capabilities.

Panasonic Link2Cell Bluetooth Cordless Phone System
This product was recommended by Andrew Nelson from Pump Advisor
This is worth double its price for the call block feature alone. The system is far superior to our old Panasonic wireless phones, both in the quality of sound and features. A real bonus is the base wireless phone used at the base station. Our previous system used a corded phone at the base. The range seems far superior to our old wireless phone and each remote phone indicates its charged status. But, the most valuable feature is the capacity to block unsolicited calls, as well as being able to block manually unwanted nuisance calls. At any time a blocked call can be removed from the list manually. If you want to end annoying calls to your home this product will help do the job for you. I highly recommend this phone system which is easily installed.
